Presidents Report for 2025 AGM
2024 – 2025 has been a productive year with demonstrations and activities.
These include:
2-day woodcarving weekend
Discussion on sanding techniques
Wooden egg making demonstration
2-day bowl making weekend
Intarsia demonstration
Participation in the 2-day Wooden Boat Festival in Goolwa
Discussion on various finishes and their application
Pyrography workshop
Resin application and use
Tool sharpening
And last weekend there was the 2-day Port Elliot Show.
Golden Egg winners over the past 12 months were October 24 Wayne, November 24 Bernie, December 24 John Tucker, January John Baker, February Doug, March Deb, April Mandy, May Ross, June John Read, July me, August Mark and last month Pam.
Our Community Project involved making wooden eggs for sale at the Jetty Food Store in Port Elliot to aid the Hooded Plover Conservation Fund, raising over $1200 dollars in the past 12 months. This included the silent auction at the Port Elliot Show of the penguin intarsia crafted and donated by John Tucker, raising $327. An outstanding effort.
I would like to thank the committee for their work during the year, particularly during the Wooden Boat Festival and the Port Elliot Show, both in the organization and presentation. These two activities provide the Club with an opportunity to showcase our skills, sell some of our projects and attract new members.
I would particularly like to thank the many people who worked to make the Port Elliot Show so successful for us. This includes people setting up the sales area and demonstrations and those that participated in the competition. I would encourage all our members to strongly consider preparing something for next year’s show.
I would also like to thank those that were able to attend to help pack up and clean up at the end of the show.
I attempted to list all I could think of who participated but, in the end, decided against that as I was sure I would miss someone.
There are some members who I would like to mention that assist in the general running of this Club
Garry Coombe for testing and tagging our equipment a couple of weeks ago so that we were compliant for the Port Elliot Show.
Pam Dale for keeping the tea and coffee organized
Mandy for keeping Facebook page updated. Also, thanks to Mandy, who sought and organized the Jetty Food Store as a venue for the sale of our Hooded Plover fund eggs. Mandy collects the money and updates the supply of eggs after members have produced them.
Carolyn for her entertaining and informative videos of our activities on Facebook
David Beetie for his efforts in keeping the accounting up to date.
Wayne, assisted by Pam when needed.
This club would not run anywhere near as smoothly as it does without the services of our Secretary Wayne.
Wayne transports any equipment needed for our monthly meetings and outside activities. Wayne also spends considerable time machining timber in preparation for meetings, be it for members use during the meeting or for sale and for demonstrations at the Wooden Boat Festival and the Port Elliot Show.
Thankyou Wayne you do an amazing job for this club.
Officers elected today were President Bill Eden, Secretary Wayne Dale, Treasure David Beattie and 3 Committee Members, Carol Kennewell, Mark Farmer and Bernie Stefanrasmus.
Wayne Dale spoke and said he would be handing his secretary position over to Bernie during the year as he wanted to reduce his workload and travel while he and Pam were still able.
David Beattie also said he would be handing his treasured position over to Mark Farmer during the year because he wished to spend more time with his family.
A discussion followed the AGM regarding our Christmas show in December and if we should get it catered or not. No conclusion was made and members were asked to consider and come with their thoughts at the November meeting in 2 weeks’ time. In the interim quotes will be sought from a couple of opportunities for between 40 and 50 people.
Show and Tell was conducted by last month’s winner Pam Dale. Port Elliot Show entrants were asked to bring their exhibits to demonstrate to members what is required and hopefully motivate more to enter.
Brian Martin was the winner of Show and Tell for this month.
